Houston Methodist Shuttle, Parking & Getting Around the Campus

If you're looking up the Houston Methodist shuttle schedule, there's a good chance you're short on time, so here's the answer first. The rest of this guide covers parking, drop-off, finding your building, and planning the trip back to wherever you're staying.

One note before we start. This guide is about Houston Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center at 6565 Fannin Street. Houston Methodist has other hospitals around the Houston area, and their parking and transportation work differently.

Where can I find the Houston Methodist shuttle schedule?

We couldn't find a published shuttle run by Houston Methodist itself for getting around the medical center campus. The shuttle most patients and caregivers mean is the free Texas Medical Center shuttle, which TMC runs for patients, visitors, and employees across the campus. Its current hours are on TMC's Shuttle Services page, and you can see live arrivals and stops on the TMC LIVE Shuttle Tracker.

Houston Methodist also says plainly in its patient FAQs that it doesn't offer a shuttle from either Houston airport. If a hotel or apartment told you about a shuttle, that's the property's own service with its own schedule, and you'll need to get the times from them.

Which Houston Methodist campus and building is your appointment in?

This sounds obvious, but it's where a lot of appointment days go sideways. Houston Methodist has hospitals in Baytown, Clear Lake, Cypress, Sugar Land, West Houston, Willowbrook, and The Woodlands, plus the flagship in the Texas Medical Center. Typing "Houston Methodist" into your phone can send you to the wrong one.

Even at the TMC location, "the hospital" is really a group of buildings: Dunn Tower, Scurlock Tower, Smith Tower, Walter Tower, Neurosensory/Jones Tower, the Outpatient Center, the Research Institute, and more. Your appointment instructions should name the building, floor, and sometimes the entrance. Put that building's address in your GPS, not just the hospital name, and choose parking based on that building.

What should you know about the Houston Methodist shuttle schedule?

Since the TMC shuttle is the one that applies, here's what TMC lists right now. Service runs Monday through Friday on two routes.

The Red route runs from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and again from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. It comes every 7 to 10 minutes at peak times (6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m.) and about every 30 minutes otherwise. Notice the midday gap. TMC points riders to METRORail outside those hours.

The Green route runs from 4:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., every 10 to 12 minutes at peak times (6 to 8:30 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m.) and about every 30 minutes the rest of the day.

TMC's page doesn't list weekend service, reservations, or accessibility details, and it doesn't say which stop sits closest to each Methodist tower. The shuttle brochure linked from that page maps the stops, and the live tracker shows where each bus is. TMC also posts a separate holiday schedule. If you're counting on the shuttle with a wheelchair or walker, call the TMC Parking Help Line at 713-791-6161 before your appointment day.

Where can patients and caregivers park at Houston Methodist Hospital?

According to Houston Methodist's visitor parking page, the TMC campus has five self-park garages. Houston Methodist runs three of them at the Outpatient Center, Scurlock Tower, and Smith Tower. TMC runs the other two: Garage 1 at 6519 Fannin Street, near Dunn and Main Towers, and Garage 7 at 1120 John Freeman Boulevard, near Walter and Neurosensory/Jones Towers.

In the Houston Methodist garages, the first 20 minutes are free, then it's $7 up to an hour, $9 for one to three hours, $12 for three to 7.5 hours, and $15 for up to 24 hours. A lost ticket costs $25. The TMC garages use their own rate scale plus tax, also topping out at $15 for a full day.

Valet costs $15 for up to three hours and $20 for three to 24 hours, with each extra day at $20. Dunn Tower valet, off Fannin Street, is open 24/7. The other valet stands are weekday only: Neurosensory/Jones Tower and the Outpatient Center (both off John Freeman Boulevard), the Research Institute (off Bertner Avenue), Scurlock Tower (off Fannin Street), and Smith Tower (off Main Street). Their hours vary, with the earliest opening at 5 a.m. and the earliest closing at 7 p.m., so check the parking page for your building.

The parking page doesn't mention validation or multi-day discounts. If you'll be coming in daily for weeks, ask about them at 713.441.4499, the number Houston Methodist lists for parking questions.

Where should a caregiver drop off or pick up a patient?

Houston Methodist's campus map page shows a valet entrance on the first floor of the Main Building, with the Departure Lounge just inside. The valet stands listed above are the other entrances Houston Methodist publishes. Outside of those, we didn't find official drop-off zones listed for specific towers.

For anything beyond a routine visit, like surgery, a procedure with sedation, or a discharge, ask the care team ahead of time which entrance to use and where to wait. It's a two-minute call that can save a confused lap around the block with someone who isn't feeling well.

How can you get around the Houston Methodist campus?

Download the campus map PDF from the campus map page before you go. Houston Methodist's map notes that the Level 2 crosswalk connects most buildings on campus, while Level 1 and Level 3 crosswalks reach only certain areas. If you get turned around, Guest Relations is on the first floor of Dunn Tower, and you can call them at 713.441.4100.

Give yourself extra time on your first visit. Finding the right garage, elevator, and crosswalk usually takes longer than the drive itself.

What if walking or boarding transportation is difficult?

The Houston Methodist pages we reviewed don't publish details on accessible parking spots, accessible entrances, or wheelchair assistance at the TMC campus, so it's worth calling before you arrive. Guest Relations (713.441.4100) and the parking line (713.441.4499) are good places to start. Ask which garage and entrance put you closest to your appointment and whether someone can meet you at the door.

For the TMC shuttle, call 713-791-6161 to ask about boarding with a mobility device. If standard transit won't work, METRO runs METROLift, a paratransit service for riders who qualify. You'll need to apply through METRO before you can use it.

Can you get to Houston Methodist appointments without a car?

Yes, and plenty of families do. The METRORail Red Line runs along Fannin and Main, with three stops in the medical center: Memorial Hermann Hospital/Houston Zoo, Dryden/TMC, and the TMC Transit Center. Dryden/TMC sits at Fannin Street and Dryden Road. METRO's Texas Medical Center page lists Red Line trains every 6 to 12 minutes.

Taxis, Uber, and Lyft are easy to get in Houston. Houston Methodist doesn't list a rideshare zone on the pages we checked, so give the driver your building's address and tell them which entrance you need. If you're flying in, our guide to Hobby vs. IAH for the Texas Medical Center helps with the first leg, and our TMC transportation guide goes deeper on getting around the wider campus.

Getting to Houston Methodist Hospital: quick comparison

How should transportation affect your housing choice?

Once you know which building you're going to and when, the place you stay matters more than any app. A short trip on paper can turn into a long one with a transfer, a garage line, or a shuttle that doesn't run when your appointment ends.

That's why, at Medical Accommodations, we suggest you ask about the actual route from a specific property to your Methodist building before you book. A few questions that help: Does the property shuttle stop near your tower, or only at a central TMC point? Do its hours cover a 6 a.m. check-in and a late discharge? If you're relying on the TMC Red route, what happens if your appointment ends during the midday gap? If you drive, are you ready for daily hospital garage fees on top of parking at home base?

A couple of our properties, Sync Med Center and Stella at the Medical Center, list a complimentary shuttle to Texas Medical Center facilities. That's a property service, not a Houston Methodist one, so ask our team for the current stops and times and whether it fits your schedule. Parking at the apartment is covered in what's included, but hospital garage fees still apply when you drive to campus.

If you're comparing options, browse our furnished apartments near the Texas Medical Center, see our page on furnished apartments near Houston Methodist, and check our commute times from TMC housing to major hospitals. Families planning a longer stay may also find our Houston Methodist family housing guide and caregiver housing near the TMC useful. Stays start at one night, and our FAQs cover bookings and cancellations.

Whatever the property, don't assume "near the medical center" means walkable for the patient. Someone recovering from surgery may not manage a distance a caregiver walks easily.

What should you confirm before appointment day?

A quick run-through the day before makes the morning calmer. Our TMC patient housing checklist covers the bigger picture, but for transportation:

  • The exact building, floor, and entrance from your appointment instructions

  • How you're getting there, plus a backup if the shuttle or train isn't running

  • Which garage or valet stand is closest to your building, and its hours

  • Any mobility needs and whether someone can meet you at the entrance

  • Where pickup happens afterward, especially after a procedure

  • How you're getting back to where you're staying, and when that option stops running
