Which TMC Hospital Are You Visiting? A Housing Guide by Hospital

"Texas Medical Center" shows up on a lot of referral letters. It doesn't help when you're trying to book a place to sleep.

The Texas Medical Center is the world's largest medical complex, with about 10 million patient encounters a year. It's not one hospital. It's a whole district, and where you stay depends on which building your care team works in.

So start there. This guide breaks down housing by TMC hospital, with one section for each of the seven hospitals families ask us about most, plus a link to the full guide for each. Find yours, skip the rest.

Why Your Hospital Matters More Than "Near TMC"

Two families can both be "at TMC" and need completely different things.

A cancer patient at MD Anderson might be here for months of treatment, with a caregiver who needs a real kitchen and a washer. A family whose loved one came in through a trauma center has no warning and no discharge date. NICU parents count the stay in weeks. A heart patient needs a quiet place to recover between rehab sessions. Someone coming off orthopedic surgery mostly cares about getting in and out of a car.

The hospital tells you how long you'll stay, who's coming with you, and how short the drive needs to be. A good rule from our guide to commute times from TMC housing to each major hospital: keep it under 30 minutes door to door, and shorter if you can.

Find Your Hospital

MD Anderson Cancer Center

Many people end up at MD Anderson when the diagnosis is serious, and it's rarely a short trip. Between consults, scans, chemo or radiation, and follow-ups, many families stay for weeks or months. If you're not sure how long to plan for, our breakdown of how long MD Anderson patients stay in Houston is a good place to start.

MD Anderson's own team can help with travel and lodging, too. When you want a full apartment for the long haul, see our MD Anderson Housing page or read housing near MD Anderson during cancer treatment.

Houston Methodist Hospital

Houston Methodist's flagship sits on Fannin Street in the heart of TMC, and it's known for cardiology, transplants, and complex surgery. U.S. News has named Houston Methodist the best hospital in Texas for 15 years running.

Stays here often follow a surgery date, so you can usually plan. Start with our Houston Methodist Housing page, then check out apartments near Houston Methodist and our Houston Methodist family housing guide.

Texas Children's Hospital

When your child is the patient, the whole family moves. Texas Children's Hospital is at 6621 Fannin Street, and parents often need room for siblings, a grandparent, and a lot of laundry.

The hospital lists nearby options on its where to stay page. For a furnished apartment with space for everyone, see our Texas Children's family housing page and the Texas Children's family housing checklist. NICU parents, this one's for you: preparing for an extended NICU stay.

Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center

Memorial Hermann-TMC at 6411 Fannin is one of only two certified Level I trauma centers in the Houston area. It's also home to Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital and TIRR Memorial Hermann for rehab.

Trauma stays start with a phone call, not a plan. Our Memorial Hermann family housing guide walks through the first 48 hours and how to book something you can extend day by day.

Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center

Baylor St. Luke's at 1101 Bates Avenue is home to the Texas Heart Institute. If you're here for heart surgery, a TAVR, or weeks of cardiac rehab, you'll want a quiet place with minimal stairs and room for a caregiver.

Our guide to Baylor St. Luke's patient housing covers what matters during cardiac recovery.

Ben Taub Hospital

Ben Taub is Harris Health's public hospital at 1504 Taub Loop, staffed by Baylor College of Medicine. It runs a Level I trauma center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center, so most families arrive without warning. You'll find clinic info on Harris Health's Ben Taub page.

Our Ben Taub Hospital housing guide compares hotels, hospital resources, and furnished apartments, and covers parking and visiting.

Texas Orthopedic Hospital

Texas Orthopedic Hospital sits toward the southern end of Fannin. After a joint replacement or spine surgery, a few extra minutes in the car can feel much longer, and stairs can be a deal breaker.

Check your drive in our commute times guide.

Seeing More Than One Hospital?

It happens a lot. You might get treatment at MD Anderson, a heart consult at Methodist, and a scan somewhere else. In that case, don't pick housing for one building. Pick a spot that sits between them. Our guide to central housing for multiple TMC hospitals shows how, and if you're torn between the two biggest names, read MD Anderson vs. Houston Methodist housing.

Who's Coming With You?

The hospital is half the answer. The other half is who's making the trip.

Every apartment is move-in ready with utilities, WiFi, linens, and parking. The full list is on our What's Included page, and you can browse all seven furnished communities on our Locations page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find housing by TMC hospital?

Start with the hospital on your referral letter or appointment card, then use the table above to jump to that hospital's guide. If you're still not sure, call us and tell us the hospital and department. We'll point you to the closest fit.

Which MedStays property is closest to my hospital?

It depends on the building, not just "TMC." All seven of our communities are in the Texas Medical Center area, and our team knows which ones keep each hospital's drive shortest.

What if my loved one is at a hospital not on this list?

We can still help. TMC is home to many more hospitals and clinics, and most are within a few minutes of our properties.

Can I book on short notice?

Often, yes. Trauma and emergency stays at Memorial Hermann and Ben Taub rarely come with warning, so we work fast. Availability changes week to week, so call as early as you can.

Do patients get a discount?

Yes. Patients get at least 20% off our standard rates, and patient rates stay the same all year, even during rodeo season.

Can the whole family stay together?

Yes. We have one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, so parents, siblings, or a rotating group of relatives can share one place.

Tell Us the Hospital. We'll Handle the Rest.

You already have enough to figure out. Where you sleep shouldn't be another thing to figure out.

Just tell us which TMC hospital you're headed to, your appointment dates, and who's coming with you. We'll match you with the furnished apartment that keeps your drive short and your days a little easier.

Call 888-900-2559 or 713-298-3073, or request housing online. We'll take it from there.
